GALO: Do you find yourself frustrated with the fact that young female writers (and young women in general) today are fighting the battles that you’ve fought and seemed to be progressing on?
AW: Certainly, the continuing issues over decisions affecting one’s body and workplace are most disturbing and criminal. But there are more women being published and active within communities [than in the past]. We’re in a phase of reactionary social politics, and the struggle continues unabated. No secure hiding place “down here.”
